Alone or not alone?

The trees were almost still, swaying slightly whenever the calm breeze blew gently past them. Flowers blossomed on the ground, vines, and in the trees. It was a peaceful spring evening, and it would be hard for someone to suspect that somewhere in this vast forest, there could be a person in hiding.

Well, Lauren was really hiding, more of just spending time alone as she often did. Escaping from the talk and chatter of other leopards, it was quiet here. The woman walked silently through the trees, observing each one as she passed it as if she had never seen anything like it before. Lore plucked a purple flower off one of the vines and looked at it. Its stem was green, but its petals were pointed and colorful, the same shade as the sky in the early morning.

She thought she heard something, a snap or a rustle of the leaves, and she reached for her bow. Lauren wondered what might be watching her through the dense leaves of the jungle. Friend of foe? Predator or prey? The girl didn't know. "Is anyone out there?" she called.
