leopard in white [open] « Thread Started on May 5, 2008, 10:21pm »
For once, Tempest was actually wearing clothes. It was a simple white dress that draped around her ankles, the material thin which was proper due to the sweltering heat of the jungles. Surrounding. Some might claim her suicidal for being in the area she was in-- too close for comfort near the hunting grounds of the lions. Truth was, they had the best snoozing areas, and if she laid in the tall grass, no one would find her just as long as she kept down wind, right? ..Well, no, not really. But she was starting to get annoyed over the fact everywhere else was starting to become a war zone now. Her favorite perch actually had become infested with tree dwellers that had rudely screamed at her like the monkey’s they were, which was why she had to show them that wasn’t right.
You just don’t back talk a leopard when they wanted their tree back.
So, she’d dined on monkey, snoozed in the tree for a while, then found that a leopardess and a leopard were fighting. Good god, the love triangle those two were shouting for the whole jungle to hear had been twisted and obnoxious, so Tempest had decided to go snooze elsewhere. She didn’t trust Tigers, they were hotheaded, and well…Lions might give her a very threatening warning before they attacked. Hopefully. When she had shifted human, she had went to locate where she kept the sparse few clothing she normally had hidden, found the dress, and had walked her merry ol’ way. Her reasoning was, perhaps if she was garbed in white, the lionesses would recognize it as a sign of peace. Tempest Akura was k own for being courageous, but this was being plain stupid. Normally she wasn’t so dim witted, but she was getting desperate for a nap. She required lots of sleep, otherwise she was cranky, or plain ditzy. She was also lonely, considering her sister was still fuming, her brother had vanished to god knew only where, and it seemed she couldn’t hold a conversation more then five minutes without another wild cat suddenly erupting into the scene. Why was she being so human, suddenly? And why couldn’t she be a cat longer then a few hours? She used to go for days in her leopard form!
Her arm out stretched to brush fingertips along the long, golden colored stalks found strictly in the lion’s territory, keen eyes darting around. She could smell faint lingering traces of the adversary everywhere, and it mad her nervous. Cicadas and other insects added to the lull of the waning afternoon, so Tempest finally slipped down and vanished within the tall grass, form crouched as she listened. The heat of the sun pelted her skin without mercy, though she welcomed the warmth. It made her drowsy. That’s when she slid onto her back and stretched her arms out, eyes closed to fine slits as she peered at the sun. Lately she’d been longing for a sense of peace. No sense about it, she just wanted peace period. Ever since she’d decided to pounce on the furry mane of the lion king’s head, and witnessed a fight between the lion king and the city tiger, it’d become stronger and stronger, until she just lacked the will to stay angry.
Of course, she was lonely after all. That could explain many a thing.

Tempest may have thought that she was the only cat in the tall grass but if there is one thing to be said about lions is that you'll never see them if they don't want you to. While the leopardess kept to herself she hadn't realized that two golden eyes had been watching her for a good ten minutes. Josiah's ladies knew their duties and even though their numbers had been cut by more than half, they were still phenomenal stalkers. Nothing happened in lion territory that the lionesses didn't know, even if the king had to be brush up on a few things.
Hunkered down like a furry rock without the faintest movement to give her position away, Josiah's oldest lady crouched there and watched. First of all she wanted to know what the heck the princess of the tree climbing clan was doing on their land and secondly, she wanted to make sure that Tempest wasn't planning on doing anything while she slipped away and rounded up a welcoming committee that would send the trespasser up a tree for good. She knew Josiah's rule of not starting anything but this was a blatant breach in the rules and the lionesses had every right to send an intruder packing with their tails shoved down their throats. It didn't take her long to make up her mind and without a sound the lioness vanished from her spot as if she had never been there. That didn't bode well for Tempest but then again anything concerning lions never boded well for anybody.
Except for lions of course. And Tempest would never realize how lucky she was that Josiah had showed up at that exact moment. Had the head lioness seen him in that bloodied state she probably would have taken her anger out on Tempest. Needless to say Momma Lion would not have been merciful, especially since Josiah looked like he had half his face chewed off and was limping badly. But she was long gone as Josiah wearily hopped on three paws as he slowly made his way onto his lands. At the rate he was going it would take a good two hours before he made it to the Den and that was one trek he just wasn't up to making at the moment.
Once he had left the forest and the white tiger behind the adrenaline rush that had kept him from feeling anything quickly wore off and Josiah got the full shebang. That kid knew how to use his claws and it had taken Josiah a good ten minutes to dig out the shattered claw that had been embedded in his left shoulder. The majority of his wounds rested on his head and shoulders but his mane had taken the worst of the fight. However, whether it was by fluke or actually planned, the kid had gotten lucky in one sense. Somehow he had managed to get his teeth on Josiah's left hind leg and bit right into the tendon. Josiah had no idea how that happened but now he was feeling it all right.
With a groan Josiah slowly lowered himself down on the grass before giving up and flopping heavily on his side. He didn't have the energy to take stock of his surroundings and make sure that he was alone but right then he really didn't care. Post-battle exhaustion was a real pain in the tail and all he could do was wait until it wore off before continuing his trek back home.

Tempest seemed to doze in and out from time to time. She couldn’t fully trust herself to go into a deep sleep she longed for, considering she wasn’t in the safest place in the world. At times, her skin would prickle, the age old survival instincts making her tense, fingers curling inward as she fanned her senses out. She knew she was in danger, however she was suddenly lacking the energy to care much-- she was always much more active at night, and listless and lethargic during the day. Unless a certain sibling was in danger. Was Savannah still mad about that..?
When her eyes opened once more, her body felt warm, the soothing sounds of the forest around her making her want to purr, even in human form. It was sad, really. The cat clans were always territorial creatures so the thought of peace was laughable. Though it was sad that a leopardess who wasn’t even within the high and mighty royal ‘circle’ longed for the tension between two cat clans to end. Of course, the Akura sisters were often considered eccentric in that respect, and most anything they had to say that was important was ignored, considering their name was one most of the small clans within the leopard clan tended to use when making jokes. No, Akura bloodline was not respected and if it wasn’t for Tempest’s older brother, the two sisters would probably be exiled. Speaking of which, where had he gotten to?
Her skin started to prickle and itch once more, tugging Tempest from her musings as she stilled and listened. Her heart beats picked up, her eyes slightly narrowing s she tried to discern the source of her sudden fear. She seemed to wait and listen a long while, however the sudden sounds of grass brushing along something on the move made her entire body tense up. And like a true human, she started to panic inwardly, before her inner wild beast took control, making her relax, even become calm. A predator waiting to strike. She continued to lay there in human form, listening to the sounds of the danger move noisily forward, the calmness in her lethal compared to how she’d been acting normally.
That’s when whatever it was suddenly plopped down not a few yards away from her, making Tempest startled at the realization of what it was. He was. The wounded king of Lions. Immediately, her resolve to attack and flee left, the annoying human in her that seemed to be more and more persistent making her feel…sympathetic? Not like Josiah would care for that one. She wasn’t sure he was even aware of her presence, and she certainly didn’t want him to startle and attack her while in that form -- or any form for that matter -- which was why she remained silent. Trying to figure out if she should let her presence be known, or hope he didn’t see her. Fact of the matter was, she owed him to let him know she was dangerously close to his territory, which wasn’t too smart at all.
Gods, she was terrified!
“….I mean you no harm, save for my growing stupidity as of late. I’ll leave my explanations for a time when time itself isn’t an issue, and slink awa- …My god, he got you more then I thought he had!” Though her voice was small and slightly afraid, when her eyes managed to actually take in the whole of his furred form, it looked as if a hunt party of tigers had attacked! Why as she feeling concerned? He wasn’t one of her own, and a supposed enemy. Yet he had let her live. Twice. And she felt she owed him a repayment by trying to save his, which was why she sat up, lips forming in a worried frown. If herself from two weeks back could see her now, Tempest might’ve been killed by a sleek black leopardess to end the older one’s embarrassment. She acted too human, lately.

Owwww...
Okay it was worse than it looked but that didn't make it any less painful.
Josiah's ear twitched ever so slightly as he just lay there in a large furry heap as the tall grass bent under his weight. If only his enemies could see him now. But Josiah didn't care nor was he worried. No cat other than a lion would trek into this part of the territory in the middle of the day where they would have stuck out like a sore thumb on the open plain. He knew he had to make it back to the Den before nightfall or else he would have a situation on his hands, but right then it wouldn't kill him to nap off the exhaustion for a few minutes. Post-battle fatigue was a real kink in the tail and he hadn't worked himself up that hard to begin with.
Had it been the other way around and he and the tiger fought to kill it would have taken about a day before the excess energy wore off and Josiah would have been down for the count for a week. Everyone always talked about the male lions fighting like forces of nature, destroying anything in their way yet no one outside the Pride knew the cost of this action. The lions always made sure to stay low and out of sight after a serious and bloody battle, least anyone should find out what happened to them once the blood began to flake.
So when Tempest piped up and revealed herself to him, Josiah was more than a little surprised even if he did nothing to show it. A flash of panic whizzed through his skull as he cracked open an eye and glared up at her before shutting it quickly as an annoying fly buzzed around his eyelids. Great, this was just great.
Go away.
His deep growl seemed to articulate exactly what he was feeling as he shifted his weight and rolled over onto his other side, giving Tempest the full view of his back. Maybe she would just leave if he ignored her. But when she started to speak Josiah groaned and placed a large paw over his face. Why wasn't she leaving? Did she want him to kill her? What was with this leopardess and testing fate? If Josiah wasn't so damn exhausted he would probably have done something once and for all. After all this was the second time he ran into her on his lands. This was starting to become a habit that he didn't like.
"Oh yeah? You should see the other guy. He won't sit for a month."
Hearing words coming out of a lion's mouth is more than just unusual, it's just plain weird but Josiah didn't have the energy at the moment to switch forms. Instead he partially morphed his vocal chords into order to communicate in a more quieter tone. Roaring and snarling would only attract attention, the wrong kind of attention.
"Mind explaining what the hell you're doing here?"
